We live in a small two room apartment in a big city, but at least with two small balconies 🙂 To live in a city is sometimes a bit too little green from my point of view. Because of that I wanted to make two small urban gardens out of my balconies 😉
Here I want to show you how they look like and want you easy can plant on your balcony.
My first tip for a green summer on you balcony are mint in all variations. It´s soooo easy to care them. I have five different sorts of mint, herbs like dill, thyme, basil, wild chive, garden parsley or rosemary, besides vegetable plants (tomatoes, cucumber and kohlrabi) and flowers on my balconies.
I think there are only two thinks that can dim the joy. The first one are vermin and the second are the plastic pot where you buy your plants in. But for both there are an easy and eco-friendly solution.
Against the vermin I found a really effective recipe for a spray (particular against plant louse and mildew):
You need:
- a spray bottle
- 1 tsp soda
- ca. 4 cups/ 1 litre of water
- 1 tsp oil
- 2 tsp alcohol (e.g. spirit)
Just mix all the ingredients together, fill it in a spray bottle and spray it on the affected areas. I promise the plant louse and the mildew is away in a few days.
Against the other „problem“ I found something great at my local gardener. They offer their herbs in these plastic-free pots that you can compost after using. I used them a second time to raise some plants in spring.
